Will you be protected if you take the pill the day after your finish your period?

Im taking yasmin (have used this before) but i took a break from it for three months. im going back on it but didnt realize that i have to take it day one, or day 2-5 DURING your period. If i start the day after i finished my period will i be protected, do i have to wait 7 days, or do i have to take the whole pack before it kicks in. Cheers.
