I have a Verizon BB Storm II. Can I buy a SIM card in Europe and use it there?

The new BBs have sim cards in them. I will be traveling in Europe and was wondering if I can buy a sim card there. The Storms can handle GSM, as far as I know - but is it a simple sim card swap? Or does the phone have to be unlocked?
