What is wrong with my 1993 honda civic coupe?

I was recently driving my car and when I would go to put it into 3rd it would "jolt" until I put it back into 2nd. The car drove ok home in 2nd. I left it over night and in the morning went to start it and nothing! At one point while I was driving and went into third the car stopped dead in its tracks, it was still running just wouldn't move. I had it in @ the oil changers about a week ago and they told me all of my fuels were fine. Now the car will sort of turn over Just wont start.....Im lost!
