Is it possible to play the first Burnout for the PS2 without checkpoints?

I want to play the game freely, just to meander around in traffic, not to necessarily race but just have a game play experienced close to the Midtown Madness games for the PC. Please Help, are there any cheat codes to disable checkpoints, or a level I have to beat to just have a free drive mode with traffic.
